The interest in coal increased due to the natural gas crisis that emerged immediately after the war with Russia and Ukraine. Thus, the number of companies exporting coal has increased. The main actor in Europe’s natural gas crisis is Russia. In the wake of the sanctions against Russia, Russia brought the West to its knees and turned the gas tap off. There will be more energy consumption for heating in the 2022-2023 winter season. Especially the energy crisis in Europe will show up in the autumn. The decrease in energy will also affect agriculture and animal husbandry.
Coal mines reopened
While Europe planned to close coal mines completely in the next decade, it was considering completely banning coal for energy consumption. Since Russia has the possibility of shutting down natural gas, European countries that stockpile large amounts of coal have started to both stockpile and reopen coal mines. Interest in Russian natural gas began to wane after Russia announced that it would receive all payments in rubles. European countries may remain dependent on coal in the coming years.
Coal exporting countries are knocking on the door
Coal importing countries started to knock on the doors of countries like Turkey. In 2022, Turkey will earn serious money from coal. There is no energy threat for Turkey, as Turkey is on good terms with the countries from which it buys natural gas. Although there is no need for coal in our country, coal mines have started to work actively again. The mines are working at full speed both to meet domestic demands and to sell coal abroad. Coals with high calorific value produce more energy and are preferred by countries.
